Really once I decided to start the whole thing took maybe 10 minutes, and I do think I like the change. I used chinese 1n34a germanium diodes as a replacement, but from what I know of such things, almost any diode would work, depending on personal taste. The diodes are labeled d2 and d3, and are in the middle of the circuit board, right above the input/output jacks. I reassembled the pedal, pluged it it, and success! Not only does it still work, it sounds better then ever! I have renamed it the stoner tube overdrive, because it seemed to be woollier, and fuzzier, less harsh and less thin (although it wasnt super thin to start with) I took a chance that they might be extra clipping diodes, desoldered them, and replaced them with some spare germanium diodes I had laying around. Almost all the parts are surface mount robot solder jobs, except for one pair of diodes, with no obvious connections, or an equivalent in a real tube screamer. Today I was doing some investigating, seeing how close it was to a real tube screamer and if I could make any upgrades to get it closer, and I found that its mostly not possible. Its a super low budget tube screamer clone, and its not terrible, but not fantastic either. Savor the beauty of Napa Valley while tasting a selection of our current release reserve wines. I desoldered the sensor that turns the wah on and off. So I came up with this mod, using stuff I had lying around the house: 1. Last year I bought a behringer to808 vintage tube overdrive. Thats the price you pay for getting 150 worth.
